Pithoragarh, July 6 More than 52 motor roads were closed and passengers traveling on these roads got stranded at several spots in Kumaon region following moderate to heavy rain in last 24 hours in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
” A geoup of 35 Adi kailash pilgrims returning in their own vehicles were stranded at Tawaghat due to roadblock at Rongati Nala, four days ago, ” said BS Mahar, District Disaster Management Officer, (DDMO), PIthoragarh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Mahar, SDRF, NDRF teams alongwith police and revenue officials have been sent to rescue the pilgrims. Said DDMO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Champawat District Magistrate Navnit Pandey said that over300 passengers stranded near Swala on Champawat- Tanakpur road last evening due to blocked road following landslides, were given refreshments by district administration teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The district administration Pithoragarh, has sounded an alert in the villages near river Kali and Gori, flowing in the district after the water level of the rivers crossed danger mark following heavy rains in the area sincw last evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The water level of Gori river at Jauljibi reached o.70 meters beyond the warning level while river Kali was flowing at 0.70 meters above danger mark at evening of July 5.”said BS Mahar, District Disaster Management Officer, Pithoragarh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This situation arises after a rainfall of 100 mm in Dharchula and 55 mm at Bangapani sub division the basin areas of these rivers ” said Mahar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pithoragarh District Magistrate Reena Joshi, has ordered to sound an alert in these areas and instructed the revenue officials not to let villagers and their animals to near river banks of both rivers of Gori and Kaki.” We have also sought assistance from SSB, Army Irrigation, SDRF and NDRF teams of needs.”said DM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to information given by DDMO office at Haldwani, due to slide debris on road following rains in Kumaon region in last 24 hours, a total of 52 roads have gone closed including 17 Champawat roads 12 in Bageswar and 20 in Pithoragarh district. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
