Shortage of essential commodities like LPG cylinders, vegetables, grains and fruits have been reported due to closure of Thal to Munsiyari road from last 14 days. The 19 trucks, stuck on way to town could not reach its\u2019 destination following heavy debris on the road.<\/p>\n
” We are falling short of essentials in Munsiyari due to stoppage of supply, due to the road block. The rice is selling at Rs 40 per kg in place of Rs 30 normally, the tomatoes have gone up to Rs 110 per kg and onion at Rs 70,” said Puran Pandey, a resident of Munsiyari town.<\/p>\n
According to District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) , the road to Munsiyari is closed due to continuous heavy rains in the region.”Even last evening Tejam region witnessed\u00a0 86 mm of rainfall, that is highest rainfall in the district in the last 24 hours,” said Bhupendra Singh Mahar, District Disaster Management Officer, (DDMO), Pithoragarh.<\/p>\n
A total of 26 motor roads including 4 border roads are closed in the district. “Due to closure of Thal to Munsiyari road at Banik, only small vehicles are getting through to Munsiyari,” said Mahar.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Manjit singh today visited Gharuri Mankota area in Mawani Dawani region of Bangapani sub-division and instructed\u00a0 Zeenat Ansari, the Patwari of area to prepare a report of the disaster that struck last night and damaged the temporary bridge resulting into discontinuance of school going routine of local students. “The SDM also instructed\u00a0the construction of the bridge that was washed away in 2022,” said Bhagat Singh, a resident of the village.<\/p>\n
According to DDMO officers in Pithoragarh, Almora, Bageshwar and Champawat districts, an average of 2500 villagers of over 60 villages are yet to be rehabilitated in the region. “Out of a total 77 disaster affected villages, we have rehabilitated over 55 villages, soil testing is on progress to select safe places for the remaining villages,” said B.S. Mahar, DDMO, Pithoragarh.<\/p>\n
