Villagers living in the remote regions of Munsiyari and Bangapani sub-divisions of Pithoragarh district are facing acute shortage of essential goods as all roads to Munsiyari and Bangapani have closed due to landslides following heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n
According to district disaster management office in the district, a total of 42 roads including\u00a035 village roads, one National highway, three state highways and three border roads are closed today.”Most of these roads are situated in the sub-divisions of Munsiyari and Bangapani,” said DDMO.<\/p>\n
Namik, the most distant village of the district is facing shortage and rising cost of essential goods in the village due to closure of all three roads to the village. The fresh supplies\u00a0of goods has disrupted.”We are purchasing onion at a cost of Rs 120 a kg, rice on Rs 40 a kg and sugar at Rs 65 a kg these days as all three link roads to village are closed,” said Laxman Singh, a villager of Namik.<\/p>\n
The villagers of remote parts of Munsiyari, Bangapani, Dadihat and Kanalichina are using tracks to reach local markets to purchase essential goods as village roads to these remote villages are closed.”Over 120 villages of the district are cut off from main roads due to the landslides caused by rains,” said Lokeswar Bahadur Jangpangi, a social worker in Munsiyari.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, people of Dharchula, Jauljibi Didihat and Askot regions felt a sigh of relief as the National Highway from Pithoragarh to Dharchula was opened by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) after 20 hours of closure.” Due to closure of this significant border road, people could not go to their ntaive places on the occasion of Rakhi festival,” said a villager of Khirchana village.<\/p>\n
