“It is for the first time in my service of 22 years with Kumoan Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) \u00a0when I saw a complete snowless \u2018Om Parvat\u2019. if such situation remains even for longer, it will adversely affect tourism potential of Vyans valley,” said Dhan Singh Bisht, in charge of base camp of \u2018Adi Kailash\u2019 yatra at Dharchula.<\/p>\n
According to KMVN official, till date years, the rate of snow melt during summers on \u2018Om Parvat\u2019, remained up to 95 to 99 percent but it was complete this year.<\/p>\n
However, the snow has returned on \u2018Om Parvat\u2019 today after last night’s snowfall, \u00a0Informed Dhan Singh Bisht.<\/p>\n
Bisht, who has experience of running the famous \u2018Kailash Mansarowar\u2019 and \u2018Adi Kailash Yatras\u2019, for 20 years continuously, the viral photos of snowless \u2018Om Parvat\u2019 created panic amongst district administration officials in Pithoragarh who have now taken a sigh of relief after fresh snowfall on \u2018Om Parvat\u2019.<\/p>\n
“From last 5 years, the rains and snowfall in high Himalayan region has shown a tendency of pouring or snowfall at scattered placed in less density that might be the cause of no snow in \u2018Om Parvat\u2019, “said Dhan Singh.<\/p>\n
Dr Sunil Nautiyal, Director of GB Pant National Institute of Environment and Development at Almora, said that the rising temperatures in eco sensitive zones of Himalayan region due to increased number of bio fuel run vehicles besides the general phenomenon of global warming has led to absence of snow during summers.” We will have to determine bearing capacity of all sensitive places of high Himalayan region as well as rampant forest fires as carbon generated by forest fires is also damaging\u00a0 sensitive spots in the high Himalayan region,” said\u00a0 Dr Sunil Nautiyal.<\/p>\n
Vyans valley, that was connected with motor road in the year 2020,\u00a0 witnessed a total of over 20000\u00a0vehicles, visitors from October last year\u00a0 till beginning of monsoon this year, after Prime Minister Modi visited the place on October 12, 2023.<\/p>\n
“It was 10 times more foot fall in this region as there used to be only 2000 visitors to \u2018Adi Kailash\u2019 and \u2018Mansarowar\u2019 before Modi\u2019s visit,” said Krishna Garbiyal, a resident of Garbiyang village of Vyans valley.<\/p>\n
