Tehri Hydro-electric development Corporation (THDC) experts, providing consultancy on treatment of landslide sensitive zones on the Tanakpur to Pithoragarh all weather road, have informed that in next 18 months the road could be made free of landslides as the treatment work of landslide sensitive zones has been going on.” After the treatment work, 90 percent of slops will be stabilised to make the road free from frequent landslides during monsoon,”said Neeraj Aggarwal, team leader of experts team of THDC that is providing technical expertise on slop treatment on the National Highway number Nine.<\/p>\n
The THDC experts team leader said that at Swala over 150 meters long portion needs to be treated from landslides points of view. He further said that \u00a0their institution is\u00a0 providing consultancy to stabilise\u00a0 sensitive slops\u00a0 on all \u2018Chardham\u2019 roads from March 2021.<\/p>\n
According to THDC experts, formerly they have been given work of consultancy to provide advise on 60 landslide sensitive zones on the road formally.” After 18 new sensitive zones have come up in this monsoon, the number of slide sensitive zones on the road has gone to 78 now,” said Aggarwal.<\/p>\n
According to NH engineers, possibility of development of new\u00a0 landslides\u00a0 sensitive zone in future , cannot be ruled out on Tanakpur-Pithoragarh all weather road, as the nature of rains has been incessant sharp and concentrated during monsoon months. “This is new rain pattern that has not been anticipated when the DPR of the road was being finalised,” said NH Chief Engineer Dayanand.<\/p>\n
“Despite all the Geological\u00a0 factors taken into consideration during the construction, the nature of\u00a0 rains during monsoon months created new \u00a0sensitive landslide zones this year as Sewala is one of these sensitive zones,” said the NH chief engineer.<\/p>\n
The road at Sewala is now ready for loaded vehicles as the new ramp has been erected on the spot.”We are also clearing loose debris deposited above the road at Sewala to free the road from frequent blockages due to fall of\u00a0 loose debris from above,” said the NH engineer. Loaded trucks are now being allowed to pass on the newly erected ramp at Sewala.<\/p>\n
