Dehradun, Dec 3<\/p>\n

On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Sanjay Orthopedic, Spine, and Maternity Center, in collaboration with SHEWA Society, organized a symposium, felicitation ceremony, and a free orthopaedic consultation camp,here today.<\/p>\n

The program was inaugurated by lighting the ceremonial lamp by Chief Guest Padma Shri Dr. R.K. Jain, Chairperson, Minority Commission of Uttarakhand; Special Guest Padma Shri Kalyan Singh Rawat; Vice-Chancellor of Sparsh Himalayan University, Prof. K.N. Jaina; Ayurvedacharya Dr. Mahendra Rana; Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. J.P. Nawani, Social Activist \u00a0Devendra Pal Singh Monty; Padma Shri Dr. B.K.S. Sanjay, Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Gaurav Sanjay and Dr. Sujata Sanjay.<\/p>\n

The SOS Center and SHEWA Society honoured distinguished para-athletes, including Neerja Goyal, Rajendra Singh Tanwar, Rajesh Verma, Vishal Goyal, Mannu Singh, Manoj Parmar, Dhanveer Singh Bhandari, Amit Kumar, and Naveen Kumar. They also recognized organizations working for the differently-abled, such as NIVH, Human Rights and Social Justice Organization, Inner Wheel Club, Lions Club, Cheshire Home, Bajaj Learning, and the Senior Citizen Welfare Society Mussoorie, for their remarkable contributions.<\/p>\n

Padma Shri Dr. B.K.S.Sanjay emphasized, “The longer a disability persists, the greater its impact. Government, non-government organizations, and society must work to prevent disabilities. Any deformity or disability should be addressed as soon as possible. This is why we always advise patients and their families to undergo required surgeries promptly because saplings can be straightened, but trees cannot.” India and International record holder Dr. Gaurav Sanjay expressed his gratitude to the guests and said that decades ago, conditions like Cerebral Palsy (C.P.), Polio, and orthopaedic disabilities were the primary causes of disability. However, today, road accidents have become the leading cause. He highlighted that while India has been polio-free since March 27, 2014, numerous old cases of polio persist, along with challenges posed by C.P. patients, which create significant social and other issues.<\/p>\n

Chief Guest Padma Shri Dr. R.K. Jain remarked, “While genetic disabilities cannot be reduced, disabilities caused by road accidents can be minimized.” Former IAS Dr. Anand S. Khullar praised Padma Shri Dr. B.K.S. Sanjay and his institute for their impactful work through surgeries and urged society to treat individuals with disabilities equally and provide them with equal opportunities.<\/p>\n

Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.N. Jaina emphasized, “Everyone has a body, mind, and soul, so no one is truly disabled. With these strengths combined, everyone can contribute to society.” Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. J.P. Nawani stressed, “Differently-abled individuals should not only be recognized on World Disability Day but must always receive equal importance.” Padma Shri Kalyan Singh Rawat commended Dr. Sanjay and his organization for their exemplary efforts, stating, “In my opinion, those who ignore societal issues and fail to contribute to the community are the real disabled individuals.” All dignitaries and attendees collectively agreed that the differently-abled need active support from society rather than mere sympathy.
