Govt. urged not to make people homeless and stop hatred<\/p>\n

Hundreds of poor people, members of public organisations \u00a0and representatives of opposition parties including left parties staged a protest dharna in support of their demands at Deen Dayal Park here today. They demanded that no one be made homeless under the current government policies , legal action should be taken against spreading hate and \u00a0violence through vicious propaganda, and implementation of the \u2018Nirman Karmachari Yojana\u2019 for labourers in unorganised sector engaged in construction activities. They also demanded that the proposed “elevated road” project be cancelled because it would affect tens of thousands of families and the environment.<\/p>\n
The agitators pointed towards the fact that as per National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) order of December 16, the state government ordnance stopping eviction for further three years has no validity. They said that tens of thousands of families living on the banks of the Rispana river face eviction and homeless future as per the orders of the National Green Tribunal. The speakers at the protest called this order anti-people and against the law and alleged that the government has not taken any action on it till date to challange it.<\/p>\n
The protestors charged that since past decade, few organizations have been openly instigating violence on the basis of religion in the state, and even pelted stones at the police in Uttarkashi in the month of October, 2024 and the leaders involved in the act were all let off by the police. They further charged that hate speeches were continuously been given in the state during the civic elections. The protestors lamented that the construction workers in the state are not being registered for the past five months and the state government has failed miserably to take action in the interest of the deprived sections of the society.<\/p>\n
Through the memorandum addressed to the government, the protesters demanded that the government should immediately take legal steps to cancel the eviction order before the hearing on February 13 in the NGT. They further demanded that the government should cancel the proposal of “elevated road” in Dehradun and take concrete steps to provide real relief from traffic jams \u00a0by improving traffic signals, increasing local bus services\u00a0 and expanding and improving parking facilities. The government should take strict action against those responsible for spreading hate through propaganda. They also sought immediate action on the \u2018Nirman Karmachari Yojana\u2019 and other labour and public welfare schemes which are in limbo presently.<\/p>\n
The dharna was addressed by Samajwadi Party national secretary Dr SN Sachan, Congress spokesperson and India Alliance convenor Sheeshpal Bisht, Uttarakhand Kranti Dal’s Latafat Hussain, Sarvodaya Mandal’s Harbir Singh Kushwaha; Krantikari Lok Adhikari’s Bhopal, Chetna Andolan’s Pappu, Sunita Devi and Prabhu Pandit.<\/p>\n
CPI(M) district secretary Shiv Prasad Devli, metropolitan secretary Anant Akash, CITU district secretary Lekhraj, Prema, Narendra, and Chetna Andolan’s Rajendra Shah, Vinod Barauni, Rehmat, Ramu Soni, Sanjay, Ashok Kumar, Arun, Irfan, and Mohammad Sarwar participated in the protest alongwith affected poor people .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
