Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, today inaugurated the traditional Jauljibi fair which was once a tri-nation fair of India-Tibet and Nepal at the confluence of River Kali and Gori situated at Indo Nepal border in Pithoragarh district of the state.<\/p>\n
” We are all trying to make the state, the top state of the country by promoting such fairs those promote crafts, culture and trade of local populace,” said the Chief Minister while inauguration the fair.<\/p>\n
Before inaugurating the fair, the Chief Minister took part in the \u2018Rastriya Ekta Padyatra\u2019 from main Jauljibi market to mela place and called upon the participants to be united to give strength to the country.<\/p>\n
The Chief Minister has reached Jauljibi from his native village\u00a0Tundi, in Kanalichina block of the district, where he took part in a ceremonial Puja programme in his village. Later, the Chief Minister left for Gaucher in Chamoli district to inaugurate another traditional trade fair there.<\/p>\n
The traditional Jauljibi fair, was started by Pal\u00a0 kings of Askot state in 1815, to facilitate sale of woollen goods manufactured by Tribal \u2018Rung\u2019 women of high Himalayan region, to the people of lower valleys. It was once a tri- nation fair as it used to be participated by traders of India, Tibet and Nepal. Presently, it has been reduced as a two- nation fair only as the goods from Tibet have ceased to reach here following closure of border trade with Tibet. “We have made elaborated arrangements for over 300 traders who have reached here to take part in the week- long fair from distant parts of country to sell their goods,” said Jitendra Verma, SDM of Dharchula and mela officer of Jauljibi fair.<\/p>\n
