Power men to hold nation-wide protest on March 10 against tabling of Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025<\/p>\n

On the call given by National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE), nearly 2.7 million Power employees and engineers across the country will boycott work and come out on the streets on 10 March 2026 to protest against the proposed tabling of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 in Parliament.<\/p>\n
The decision was taken today in an online meeting of the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers. The meeting was chaired by Shailendra Dubey, Chairman of the All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF).<\/p>\n
As decided in the meeting, the NCCOEEE has written to the Union Power Minister demanding that the anti- farmer, anti- consumer and anti- employee Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 should not be introduced in Parliament. If the government proceeds with tabling the Bill, power employees and engineers across the country will strongly oppose it.<\/p>\n
Shailendra Dubey said that the Ministry of Power had earlier invited comments from stakeholders on the Bill. All federations, trade unions and organizations associated with the power sector across the country unanimously stated that the Bill is against public interest and must be withdrawn.<\/p>\n
However, the comments of stakeholders have neither been made public nor have the minutes of the consultations been released.<\/p>\n
Instead, on 30 January 2026, the Ministry of Power constituted a Working Group which included All India DISCOMS Association an organization that openly supported privatization of the power sector.<\/p>\n
Dubey said that including an organization that has already supported the Bill in the Working Group responsible for finalizing the legislation makes the entire process biased and unconstitutional.<\/p>\n
Dubey said that power employees and engineers across the country express their strong resentment against unilateral move of Ministry of Power and are ready to oppose it tooth and nail.<\/p>\n
The NCCOEEE has also decided to convene a meeting on 09 March in Delhi and invite Members of Parliament from all political parties to brief them about the serious adverse impact of the Bill on farmers, poor consumers and power employees. MPs will be urged to oppose the Bill if it is introduced in Parliament and ensure that it is not passed under any circumstances.<\/p>\n
The online meeting was attended by Shailendra Dubey Chairman ,P Ratnakar Rao,\u00a0 Secretary General of AIPEF; R K Trivedi, President of All India Power Diploma Engineers Federation; Mohan Sharma, General Secretary of All India Federation of Electricity Employees; Sudip Dutta, General Secretary of Electricity Employees Federation of India and Convener of NCCOEEE; Subhash Lamba, Vice President EEFI; Krishna Bhoyur AIFEE and R.K. Parashar of All India Powermen\u2019s Federation.<\/p>\n
All affiliated Federations have issued alerts to their members asking them to prepare for lighting action by work boycott and mass demonstrations on 10 March against the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025.<\/p>\n
