A two-day International Seminar on \u201cTribal Society of Northeast India: Literature, Culture and Tradition\u201d was successfully organized at the Kohima Campus of Nagaland University. The program was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of the University.<\/p>\n
Addressing the valedictory session, Guest of Honour, Padma Shri awardee Prof. Dr. BKS Sanjay, President of AIIMS Guwahati, highlighted that Northeast India, particularly Nagaland, represents a rich cultural heritage. He noted that the region is home to nearly 200 tribes and around 400 languages, reflecting remarkable diversity.<\/p>\n
Referring to the iconic Hornbill Festival, he described it as a vibrant platform showcasing the traditions, folk dances, music, and lifestyles of various Naga tribes, contributing to Nagaland’s national and global cultural identity. He also emphasized the importance of the traditional ‘Morung’ system in preserving indigenous knowledge and community values.<\/p>\n
Dr. Sanjay underlined the close relationship between literature, culture, and tradition, stating that literature reflects society, culture shapes it, and traditions ensure continuity. He stressed that in the era of globalization, preserving cultural roots alongside development is essential.<\/p>\n
The seminar witnessed participation from scholars across India and abroad, making it a significant platform for academic exchange and cultural dialogue. During his visit, Dr. Sanjay also paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland, Shri Nand Kishore Yadav.
