The 9-day Doon Book Festival, organized by the National Book Trust (NBT), is drawing to a close. Started on April 4th, the festival will have its final day on April 12 (Sunday). Seeing the high interest of readers, publishers are offering a 20% to 25% discount at their stalls. Book lovers are flocking to the fair to buy works by their favorite authors. Publishers noted that readers in Dehradun are turning up in large numbers.<\/p>\n
At the NBT stall, books on Indian history, geography, politics, and famous personalities are in high demand, along with children’s literature in Garhwali and Kumaoni. Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s book, Exam Warriors, is also a hit among children. Atul Maheshwari from Vani Prakashan shared that classics like \u2018Gunahon Ka Devta\u2019, \u2018Deewar Mein Ek Khirki Rehti Hai\u2019, and \u2018Raag Darbari\u2019 are very popular. Young readers are also showing great interest in the poetry of Jaun Elia. Pravin Bhatt of Samay Sakshya mentioned that readers are keen on buying story and poetry collections by Uttarakhandi authors.<\/p>\n
At Dinkar Pustkalay, works by Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and Dharmveer Bharti are highly sought after. Anil Yadav from Hind Yugm noted enthusiasm for authors like Vinod Kumar Shukla, Manav Kaul, and Divya Prakash Dubey. Rekhta Publication is seeing high sales for poets like Mirza Ghalib and Rahat Indori.<\/p>\n
Rajkamal Prakashan mentioned that while the footfall was low initially, book lovers are now arriving in large numbers for authors like Rahul Sankrityayan and Kashinath Singh. Winsar Publishing is offering books on Uttarakhand\u2019s history, geography, and current affairs.\u00a0As the festival reaches its final stage, the 20-25% discount is helping readers add their favorite books to their personal collections.<\/p>\n
Garhwali-Kumaoni Children\u2019s Literature Wins Hearts<\/p>\n
In a creative move, NBT has introduced Garhwali and Kumaoni translations of popular Hindi stories. These local language short stories and picture books have become a favorite among Dehradun\u2019s readers. Kumaoni titles like Hathi aur Kukur and Gajju Hitan Bhaigo, and Garhwali books like Gulab ka Dagru and Nanha Haira Chakhula are selling fast.<\/p>\n
Yuvraj Malik, Director of NBT, stated that the goal of the Doon Book Festival is to promote regional language and culture, making Uttarakhand a global literary hub. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for his support in making this event a success.<\/p>\n
