Indo-China border trade to resume next week as External Affairs Ministry issue trade passes

\nIndo-China border trade from Lipulekh pass, will resume from first week of June, as over 300 trade passes demanded by district administration have reached with administration, Pithoragarh District Magistrate Ashish Bhatgai said.
\n“We have received over 300 trade passes from external Affairs Ministry, Government of India as demanded. The passes will be issued to traders and their assistants from Monday. The trade is likely to start from first week of June this year.
\nAsked if government of China has approved opening of Lipulekh pass for Indian traders, the District Magistrate said that the trade passes have been issued only after Chinese approval.
\nThe centuries old Indo -Chinese border trade from Lipulekh pass situated in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state, was restarted in 1992 after the Indo-Chona war of 1962 but was again closed in 2019 due to Covid epidemic.The trade is being resumed after 6 years.
\nThe border trade with China from Lipulekh pass is traditionally been done by tribal traders of 3 tribal valleys of Vyans, Darma and Chaudans from centuries and was based on barter basis exchanging Tibetan salt and wool with grains produced in lower valleys of Kumaon and Garhwal regions.” The border trade used to be core of economy of tribal people those days,” said Padma Datt Pant, a senior citizen of Pithoragarh district.
\nThe traders, involved in this trade, after it was restarted in 1992, have said that they had already started preparations for the trade after the Pithoragarh DM called first preparatory meeting with them in the month of April this year.” Some of the traders have already stored their goods in godowns at Bundi and Gunji,” said Mangal Singh Rongkali, a senior trader and president of Border Traders Association.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
