The Ankita Nyaya Yatra Sanyukt Sangharash samiti staged a protest and gheraoed the CBI office in Dehradun today, issuing a seven-day ultimatum regarding the Ankita Bhandari murder case. The Samiti announced that if a satisfactory response regarding the investigation report is not provided within a week, it would announce the next phase of the agitation\u2014involving mass public participation\u2014and launch a campaign to lock down the CBI office in Dehradun. The samiti stated that the CBI administration would bear full responsibility for the consequences.<\/p>\n
The protesters demanded that the CBI make public the current status of the investigation, which has been ongoing for six months, and provide clear answers to critical questions related to the probe.<\/p>\n
During the demonstration, activists raised slogans demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari. Initially, CBI officials closed the office gates and denied the protesters entry. A scuffle ensued between the protesters and officials, after which a four-member delegation was invited inside the CBI office.<\/p>\n
The delegation met with CBI DSPs Ajay Mishra and Subhash Chandra, expressing dissatisfaction with the delay in the investigation and the agency’s working methods, and submitted a memorandum.<\/p>\n
Kamala Pant convenor of the samiti stated that the Ankita Bhandari case is not merely a criminal matter but a question of public trust in the justice system. “Our objective is not to jump to a conclusion, but to understand the current status of the investigation and how the questions consistently raised by the family and society are being examined,” she said.<\/p>\n
Nirmala Bisht remarked that in any democratic society, the process of justice must be as transparent as it is impartial.\u00a0 Sujata Paul noted that even after six months, numerous questions regarding the investigation’s progress remain unanswered. “We believe that transparency strengthens public trust. Therefore, we have requested the CBI to provide clear information regarding the current status of the investigation and the future course of action,” she said.<\/p>\n
Uma Bhatt stated that the Ankita Bhandari case has raised several serious questions within society. \u201cWe believe it is essential to ensure transparency and provide regular updates regarding the investigation process so that the trust of the victim’s family and the general public remains intact. We expect a fair and impartial investigation and are voicing our views democratically to this end,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Mohit Dimri, a youth member of the forum, said that their sole aim is to reassure the victim’s family and society that the investigation is proceeding with due consideration of all necessary aspects.<\/p>\n
A large number of activists and supporters\u2014including Padma Gupta, Manju Balodi, Bimla, Smriti Negi, Sushila Amoli, Pushpa Naudiyal, Geeta Bagdi, Hilta Negi, Jyoti Negi, Meena Rana, Yashoda, Shanta Naithani, Premlata Baluni, Shanti Semwal, and Sateshwari Devi\u2014participated in the protest and siege.
