Doon Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal encourages youth to champion justice and social responsibility at RLEK farewell programme<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dehradun, July 28<\/p>\n

With the belief that meaningful learning extends beyond the classroom and that awareness is the first step towards social change, the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK), Dehradun, organised its Farewell and Certificate Distribution Programme on 28th July 2026. The event was graced by\u00a0Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, <\/strong>as the Chief Guest, who inspired the young interns to uphold the values of justice, compassion and civic responsibility in their personal and professional lives.<\/p>\n

RLEK, a non-governmental organisation committed to empowering marginalised and vulnerable communities through legal advocacy, education, environmental awareness and community-based initiatives, organised the programme to mark the successful completion of its month-long internship. The occasion celebrated the interns’ experiences, learnings and contributions while placing special emphasis on legal awareness, particularly concerning domestic violence, thereby connecting academic learning with pressing social realities.<\/p>\n

The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, followed by an introduction to RLEK’s mission and its continued efforts towards building a more informed, inclusive and equitable society.<\/p>\n

The first presentation showcased the interns’ journey during the month of July. Through reflections on field visits, legal awareness campaigns, community outreach programmes, educational initiatives and practical engagements, the interns shared how experiential learning had deepened their understanding of grassroots realities and strengthened their commitment to public service.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his experience,\u00a0Prajanl Joshi, a student of Bits Law School<\/strong>, said,\u00a0“Working with the NGO taught me empathy, social responsibility, and the importance of working for the betterment of marginalized communities. It gave me the opportunity to understand society through lived experiences rather than just classroom learning, making it a truly enriching and perspective-shaping experience.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Further reinforcing the significance of legal literacy, the second presentation focused on\u00a0Legal Awareness with Special Reference to Domestic Violence<\/strong>. The session highlighted the legal rights, safeguards and remedies available to survivors, emphasising that awareness of the law is not merely informative but a powerful tool for ensuring justice, dignity and empowerment.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights of the programme was the\u00a0Nukkad Natak on Domestic Violence Against Women<\/strong>, performed by the interns. Through a compelling portrayal of the challenges faced by survivors, the performance challenged societal silence, encouraged empathy and underscored the urgent need for collective action to eliminate gender-based violence.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, Pratima Menon, Chairperson of RLEK,<\/strong>\u00a0highlighted the importance of experiential learning in shaping socially responsible professionals. She encouraged the interns to carry forward the values of empathy, integrity and public service, emphasising that meaningful change begins with informed and compassionate individuals who are willing to engage with communities and address social challenges at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, Saurabh Thapliyal, <\/strong>appreciated RLEK’s efforts in providing young students with meaningful grassroots exposure and commended the interns for their enthusiasm, dedication and commitment throughout the programme. He encouraged them to become responsible citizens and use their knowledge and skills to contribute towards a more just, inclusive and compassionate society.<\/p>\n

The programme concluded with the\u00a0Certificate and Award Distribution Ceremony<\/strong>, recognising the interns for their dedication, perseverance and valuable contributions during the internship. The ceremony celebrated not only their successful completion of the programme but also their growth as socially conscious and responsible young individuals.<\/p>\n

Concluding on an inspiring note, the event reflected RLEK’s enduring vision of empowering young minds through experiential learning, strengthening legal awareness and nurturing a generation committed to advancing justice, equality and sustainable social change.<\/p>\n
