Teacher capacity-building initiative launched at D.A.V. (P.G.) College, Dehradun, to prepare educators for inclusive classrooms<\/p>\n

Shine Avi Publication Pvt. Ltd., an organisation working on inclusive education and visual-based learning, has taken another significant step under its Inclusive Education Mission 2030 by launching a teacher capacity-building programme for B.Ed. and D.Ed. students, as well as practising teachers.<\/p>\n
The first seminar under this initiative was recently conducted at D.A.V. (P.G.) College, Dehradun, where future educators were introduced to practical methods for identifying and supporting children with diverse learning needs in general education classrooms.<\/p>\n
Shine Avi Publication, which launched its extensive collection of visual-based educational books in July, develops learning resources addressing language processing, comprehension, auditory processing, critical thinking, inferencing, communication, attention and social skills. Through its new capacity-building programme, the organisation aims to take this knowledge beyond books and bring it directly into classrooms.<\/p>\n
The seminar helped teachers understand that children in the same classroom may not learn, process information or respond to instructions in the same way. Some may experience gaps in language, comprehension, attention, communication, behaviour or academic skills. These difficulties are often misunderstood as carelessness, indiscipline or a lack of interest.<\/p>\n
Future teachers were trained to recognize early classroom warning signs, observe children without labelling them and respond with empathy, patience and sensitivity. They were also introduced to curriculum modification, simplified instructions, visual supports, differentiated teaching, adapted assessments and collaboration with parents, special educators and therapists.<\/p>\n
The central message of the programme was clear: teachers are not expected to become doctors or diagnose children. However, they can be the first people to recognize a child\u2019s difficulties and contribute meaningfully to the child\u2019s academic, social and developmental milestones.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the initiative, Ms. Anita Sharma, Director of Shine Avi Publication and Operations Head at Myra Care Foundation, said that working directly with children on the autism spectrum and those with developmental and learning needs has made the organisation aware of the urgent need to strengthen inclusive education within mainstream schools.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough Myra Care Foundation, we continue to serve children on the autism spectrum and those with developmental needs. However, we cannot ignore the larger need for inclusive education in Uttarakhand. Many children with learning gaps are already studying in general education classrooms, but their difficulties often remain unidentified or unsupported,\u201d Ms. Sharma said.<\/p>\n

She added that India has strong policy frameworks, including the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and the National Education Policy 2020, but meaningful change will happen only when these policies are translated into practical action at the classroom level.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolicies provide us with direction, but implementation must begin on the ground. Teachers need practical training, appropriate resources and continued support. This capacity-building programme is our first step towards bridging the gap between policy and classroom practice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The initiative is also Shine Avi Publication\u2019s way of giving back to the community. By preparing future and practising teachers to understand diverse learners, the organisation hopes to create classrooms where children are supported according to their individual strengths and needs rather than being judged against one common standard.<\/p>\n
As part of its long-term vision, Shine Avi Publication also aims to develop a pull-out resource room model in schools. These resource rooms would provide structured, short-duration and targeted support to children who experience learning or developmental gaps while allowing them to remain connected with their general education classrooms.<\/p>\n
Under this model, classroom teachers, special educators and parents could work together to identify learning needs, set individualized goals, use modified educational material and regularly monitor each child\u2019s progress. The purpose would not be to separate children, but to provide the additional support they require to participate more successfully in an inclusive classroom.<\/p>\n
Through its Inclusive Education Mission 2030, Shine Avi Publication plans to continue conducting capacity-building programmes across B.Ed. and D.Ed. colleges, schools and educational institutions. The organisation believes that preparing educators before they enter the classroom\u2014and supporting those already teaching\u2014is essential for building a more inclusive education system.<\/p>\n
The seminar at D.A.V. (P.G.) College, Dehradun, marks the beginning of this wider movement: transforming awareness into action, policy into practice and classrooms into spaces where every child is understood, included and given a genuine opportunity to learn.<\/p>\n
