Namik, the most distant village of border district of Pithoragarh will soon witness vehicular transportation to and from the last village as the cutting of 17 km long road portion from Hokra to Namik has been completed under Prime Minister Grameen Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).
“The cutting of road has been completed up to village school and the road is now to cut around the village to link the whole village with it,” said Kishan Singh Airi, executive engineer of PMGSY in Munsiyari.
“We have completed cutting of 17 km long road from Hokra to Namik, in a month’s time from now, the vehicular transportation on the road will be possible,” said Kishan Singh Airi.
After travelling 37 km by road, the village of Namik is at a walking distance of 24 km from Munsiyari sub-division of Pithoragarh district.”Over 800 population of Namik village had to travel and walk for 7 hours to reach sub-divisional headquarter of Munsiyari till datebut now it will take only 4 hours to reach the sub-divisional headquarter,” said Tulsi Devi Jamyal, Gram Pradhan of Namik.
K.S .Airi, the PMGSY engineer incharge of the project said that the project was started in 2016, but soon the contractor left the contract due to toughness of rocks on the road.”We had called another contractor in 2020, who continued the job till it is completed today,”said the engineer.
Been the most distant and tough and rugged terrain location, not only Namik villagers faced difficulties on day to day basis but polling parties during elections had to reach the village via Bageshwar route travelling 7 km on vehicle from Pithoragarh and 4 km walking to reach the polling booth.” After the road gets commissioned, the polling parties will have to travel four hours to reach Namik booth,” said Tulsi Jamyal, the Gram Pradhan.
