UPCL announce discount in December electricity bills to its consumers

The Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCL) has announced category wise discount available in the electricity bills to the electricity consumption of the month of December, 2024 As per the tariff regulations of the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission, if the monthly electricity purchase cost of UPCL is more than the approved electricity purchase cost, then it is charged in the consumers’ electricity bill under the item Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA), on the contrary, if the monthly electricity purchase cost is less than the approved electricity purchase cost, then it is refunded in the consumers’ electricity bill under FPPCA.
The Commission had approved the average power purchase cost for the year 2024-25 as Rs. 5.03 per unit by Tariff Order 28-03-2024, against which the average power purchase cost of UPCL during the period April, 2024 to October, 2024 was Rs. 4.69 per unit. Thus, during the period April, 2024 to October, 2024, the power purchase cost of UPCL decreased by Rs. 0.34 per unit (6.77 percent) as compared to the approved power purchase cost, due to which there was huge saving in the power purchase cost item. The amount of such saving in power purchase cost is being provided by UPCL as a discount in the FPPCA item in the electricity bills to the consumers on a monthly basis.
During November, UPCL has issued orders to provide discount of Rs 103.52 crore ( Rs 0.85 per unit) in consumer bills in the month of December, 2024. The UPCL has announced category wise discount available in the electricity bills to the electricity consumption of the month of December, 2024 as follows: Consumer category Discount per unit Domestic 25 paisa to 68 paisa, Non-domestic 98 paisa, Government Public Utility 92 paisa, Private Tubewell 30 paisa, Agricultural activities 42 paisa, LT Industry 91 paisa, HT Industry 91 paisa, Mixed load 85 paisa, Railway 85 paisa andEV Charging Station 81 paisa.
