Pithoragarh villagers evacuated following falling boulders caused by heavy rains

Over 20 families of Devat village situated near Naini-Saini airport have to be evacuated overnight after boulder from the adjoining hills started raining on the village following heavy rains in the area
No loss of life or property was reported as villagers immediately came out from their homes.
“It was at 8.30 last night, the boulders started falling near primary school. The families living near ran outside to save themselves, though there was no human loss but the danger of falling stones continues, ” said Raghubir Singh, a villager.
Pithoragarh District Magistrate Vinod Goswami, said that following the danger of falling boulders, the affected villagers have been shifted in two community halls near the village. “The administration is seeking technical advice stabilise the slopes of the adjoining hills above the village,” said the DM.
“The villagers will stay in the community halls during night while they will maintain their daily chorus in the village during day,” said the DM.
The rehabilitation arrangements for over 80 people of 20 families have been done till monsoon season. A 12 years old boy had died and 4 of his family were injured in same location of village last week, when a big boulder fell in the house they were sleeping at 1.30 am.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister has assured all help for safety of villagers, when the villagers contacted him today morning.
