Pedicon 2026: Staying away from junk food is the real key to a healthy and balanced childhood

Doctors and paediatric specialists from various states of the country emphasized that careful attention to diet is essential for the good health of infants and children. At the national conference, experts held in-depth discussions on topics related to paediatrics and neonatal care such as malnutrition, vaccination, prevention of infectious diseases, healthy eating habits, avoiding junk food, and balanced nutrition.

A two-day annual conference of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, ‘Uttarakhand Pedicon 2026,’ was organized at Graphic Era Medical College. More than 250 paediatricians from across the country participated in the conference. Over 60 research papers were presented on diverse topics including emerging trends in paediatrics and neonatal care, technical treatments of complex diseases, and innovation-based medical practices. Detailed discussions were held on several important issues related to child health, including reducing neonatal and infant mortality rates, developmental challenges, malnutrition, vaccination, prevention of infectious diseases, healthy eating habits, avoiding junk food, balanced diet, micronutrient deficiencies, adequate water intake, and overall physical and mental development.

The souvenir of the conference was also released by the Chief Guest, AIIMS Director Prof. Meenu Singh, and the Guest of Honour, Vice Chancellor of Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Prof. Ashok Deorari.

Organizing Secretary Dr. Shantanu Shubham said that staying away from junk food is the real key to a healthy and balanced childhood. He added that a strong foundation for a healthy and secure future of children can be built only through the integration of modern medical technologies, balanced nutrition, and proper care at an early stage. He emphasized that the real success lies in taking these effective measures beyond policies and ensuring they reach every home and every child.

The conference was jointly organized by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Uttarakhand, and the Department of Paediatrics and Neonatology, Graphic Era Hospital. The event was attended by Medical Director of Graphic Era Hospital Dr. Puneet Tyagi, MS Dr. Jasjit Singh, Medical Advisor Dr. S. L. Jethani, along with IAP Uttarakhand President Dr. Ravi Sahota and Secretary Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Organizing Secretary Dr. Girish Gupta, Dr. Rupa Dalmia, Dr. Syed Moeiz Ahmed, Dr. Gaurav Mukhija, and other doctors.
