CBI office lockdown protest amidst rain to seek justice for Ankita Bhandari

Dehradun, July 2

A large number of youths, women, social activists, and citizens under the banner of ‘Ankita Nayaya Yatra Sanyukt Sangharash Samiti’ marched to the CBI office in Dehradun to demand justice for Ankita Bhandari, who was killed by people closely associated with ruling BJP/RSS dispensation, three years ago. The main objective of the protest event was to seek answers from the CBI regarding unresolved questions surrounding the Ankita Bhandari murder case.

Amidst intermittent rains, the police administration stopped the protesters before they could reach the CBI office by erecting barricades. Despite this, the protesters registered their dissent by staging a peaceful protest and raising slogans vociferously.

The protesters stated that answers to several crucial questions regarding the Ankita Bhandari murder case remain elusive to this day. Specifically, they questioned why the CBI has not yet summoned individuals like Dushyant Gautam and Ajay Kumar for questioning, despite their names surfacing in connection with the ‘VIP’ angle of the case.

The agitators also alleged that no clear action has been taken against those responsible for the demolition—via bulldozer—of the resort where potential evidence was destroyed. During the protest, they demanded an answer from the Chief Minister regarding whose orders led to such a serious act of destroying evidence.

The protesters recalled that when a delegation had visited the CBI office some time ago, officials had assured them they would be kept informed about the investigation’s progress and key details of the case. However, no clear information has been provided to date.

The struggle and anguish of Ankita Bhandari’s parents were also highlighted prominently during the event. The agitators noted that a family has been continuously seeking justice for their daughter, yet all they have received so far are empty assurances.

Questions were also raised regarding why—despite the investigation commencing based on the FIR filed by Anil Joshi—there has been no serious interrogation of the individuals involved. The agitators asked why there is silence regarding key names if the investigation is truly impartial. Slogans such as “CBI, answer us,” “Give justice to Ankita Bhandari,” “Arrest the VIP,” “Summon Dushyant Gautam,” “Interrogate Ajay Kumar,” and “Arrest those who destroyed evidence” continuously echoed throughout the event.

The protesters clearly stated that this fight is not merely for Ankita Bhandari but is a battle for justice, transparency, and democratic accountability. They warned that if concrete action is not taken soon, the agitation would be expanded further.
