A mountaineering team of the Kumaon Scouts scaled the 5,585-metre-high Darma Peak in Darma Valley of Pithoragarh district last week, according to a press note issued by the Kumaon Scouts. The peak is located in the lap of the famous Panchachuli range in this part of the Himalayas.
“Besides scaling the peak in adverse weather conditions, the expedition aimed to strengthen community engagement in remote Himalayan villages of Darma Valley. The team also organised medical camps in the villages and spread awareness about the importance of conserving the natural wealth of the Himalayas,” the press note stated.
The Kumaon Scouts also completed a 110-km-long expedition to the Nanda Devi base camp last week. The expedition included community outreach activities, medical camps and tree plantation drives in villages along the route.
“Our team also undertook tree plantation drives in villages along the approach and return routes of the Darma Peak expedition,” the press note added.
