Old Lipulekh Pass, situated at an altitude of 18,300 feet, has been closed to Adi Kailash pilgrims following heavy snowfall in the high Himalayan region. The pass offers pilgrims a view of Mount Kailash in Tibet, with permission from the Indian Army, official sources said.
“Physically fit pilgrims undertaking the Adi Kailash Yatra also used to trek to the top of the pass to view Mount Kailash. However, heavy snow accumulation has made the trek slippery and unsafe, prompting the Army to close the route until further orders,” said Dhan Singh Bisht, in-charge of the Adi Kailash Yatra base camp at Dharchula.
He added that the pilgrimage was otherwise proceeding smoothly, with pilgrims continuing to have darshan of the Adi Kailash peak and Om Parvat near Nabidhang, the KMVN official said.
