The traditional Jaujlibi Tri-Nation Trade Fair, held annually at the border town of Jaujlibi in Dharchula subdivision, will commence on November 14 this year, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Yogendra Singh said.
“After a gap of six years, we expect Tibetan products to be available at the fair this year, as the Indo-China border trade has recently concluded,” Singh said after visiting the fairground and holding a meeting with stakeholders to review preparations for the historic event.
The historic trade fair, which was started by the Pal rulers of Askot in 1915, has traditionally witnessed the participation of Indian, Nepalese and Tibetan (Chinese) traders.
The month-long fair was once renowned for the sale of Tibetan horses, handmade woollen products crafted by tribal families of the Rung community, and Nepalese honey and ghee. However, its character has undergone considerable changes following the closure of Indo-Tibetan border trade and the declining presence of traditional woollen crafts among tribal communities, the ADM said.
SDM Dharchula Ashish Joshi said the administration would provide all necessary facilities to traders and visitors attending the fair.
“The cultural performances and programmes organised on the stage will also reflect the traditions and cultural diversity of tribal, non-tribal and Nepalese communities from the surrounding region, as various cultural groups have been invited to participate in the state-level programme,” Joshi said.
