Possibility of resumption of air services from Naini-Saini airport, Pithoragarh to Dehradun and Hindon, Gaziabad, has increased after a 19 seater aircraft of fly big company took trials repeatedly on Sunday and Monday.
“After successful landing and take-off by the aircraft, some more trials will be taken by the company, after that the company will inform us on its schedule of starting the flights ,” said Reena Joshi, District Magistrate, Pithoragarh.
According to ruling Bharataiya Janata Party (BJP), Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami who is visiting Pithoragarh on January 16 is likely to announce the resumption of civilian flights from Pithoragarh.”Our government is committed to resume civilian flights from here probably from January 21 to 26th this year, ” said Girish Joshi, Pithoragarh district president of BJP.
Pithoragarh airstrip was commissioned in the year 1994 but civilian flights could only be started in October 2019, but stopped in March 2020 after the nine seater aircraft of Heritage Aviation company flying on the route developed a technical snag mid air while it was on its way from Pantnagar to Pithoragarh.
“Even after that the government announced to start the air services on January 31, 2023, but it could not be resumed due to variety of reasons, ” said Bhagwan Singh Rawat, president of ‘Jan Manch’, a people’s organization in Pithoragarh
