Road to Vyans valley opened as fresh snowfall hamper road clearing in Darma valley

With the opening of road closed due to snow in Vyans valley of upper Himalayan region in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand by the 65 Road Construction Company (RCC) of Border Roads Organisation (BRO), transportation to villages situated in the the upper valley have started. However, the road to Darma valley is yet to open.
Following heavy snowfall from last night in Darma valley, the glacial points on the road at Galchun,Chalchun, Horung mullah and Yusung nullah points have again closed. Shalu Datal, a resident of Darma valley quoting BRO officials said that as these points have witnessed heavy snowfall and the clearance of road will take more than 10 days.
“The Drama road is closed from last 12 days, at 25th km from Tawaghat due to heavy boulder that blocked on road. It is likely to open in next two days,” said Karan Singh Gwal, president of Diling Darma Sewa Samiti at Dharchula.

Gwal, quoting Engineers of 65 RCC of BRO said that Sobla to Dhakar road, a portion of Taghat to Darma road has been opened after removing snow at Chalkbum glacial point. The road is still closed at Pangave point due to landslide debris.” The 67 RCC of BRO has opened Tawaghat- Lipulekh road on March 12 after it remained closed for last 12 days,” said Gwal quoting BRO sources.
According to Gwal, as the villagers are in lower valleys during winter migration, they are not facing inconvenience due to closure of this road, but the personnel posted at security posts on the Indo-China border in Darma valley, are facing difficulties in transportation.” Though the motor vehicles are not plying to and from Darma valley, the BRO has made tracks to facilitate transportation of troops,” said a BRO officer at Dharchula.
“The snowfall has continued in upper region of Munsiyari as over 4 inches of snowfall was witnessed in last 24 hours in Bhujani and Khali top regions of sub division resulting in biting cold in the town and surrounding areas,”said Puranik Pandey, a resident of Munsiyari town.
