A 30 member mountaineering team of Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans were flagged off for a mountaineering expedition to Mount Thelu by SSB Inspector General Chanse Kesing at SSb auditorium at Gawldam today. The Chief Guest presented a national flag to the expedition team to be hoisted at the Mount Thelu.
At the flagging off programme organized at SSB’s auditorium at Gwaldam, SSB Inspector General Chanse Kesing said that the teams would exercise in August and September to scale Mount Thelu located at a height of 6002 meters, located in Gangotri Glacier area of Uttarkashi district.
Team leader Subodh Kumar Chandola gave detailed information about the expedition team. He said that this campaign will start from Gwaldam and reach Srinagar on the first day. From there it will reach Gangotri via Uttarkashi. The team will start its walking journey from September 6 and establish its base camp at Raktwan Glacier at an altitude of about 15000 feet by September 7. Repacking of ration and equipment will be done for the two camps which will be put up ahead of the base camp.
After this, the work of load ferry will be done by the members for camp one and two. He said that If everything went by the plan, the expedition team will hoist the national flag on the top of Mount Thelu.
On this occasion, the Second Commanding Officer of the Institute, Sunil Kumar, Dr. Sumit Subar, Deputy Commandant Amit Kumar Sonkar and Assistant Commandant S. Bhardwaj were present.
