Pradeep Tamta, Congress candidate from Almora parliamentary constituency today said that Prime Minister Narnedra Modi did not talked about the basic issues facing the state of Uttarakhand during his election rally at Rudrapur.

Addressing a press conference in Pithoragarh town today, the Congress leader said that Prime Minister neither talked about ‘Agnipath’ scheme nor about the problem of migration from hills and strengthening agriculture in the hill region.

“While the introduction of ‘Agnipath’ scheme in army snatched permanent employment from hill youths which could compromise national security, the migration has been caused due to lack of irrigation facilities and lack of marketing of produce coupled with menace of wild animals. The Prime Minister did not address both of these concerns that are weakening the hill economy,” said the Congress candidate from Almora.

Pradeep Tamta said that by withdrawing special state status from Uttarakhand for industries and silence on the issue of grant of green bonus, the BJP government has done great injustice to Uttarakhand.

“The Chaturvedi committee in the year 2013 had recommended that besides the regular central assistance to the states, hill states be provided two percent of annual budget as green bonus as these states absorb the industrial pollution of the country by maintaining forests, but Modi government remained silent on this issue in last 10 years,” said Tamta.

According to Tamta, the tourist infrastructure in Uttarakhand has weakened in last decade. He said that while work has been on for a National highway in Kumaon region and Chardham Road project, they other parts of the state have been left untouched from road infrastructure points of view,” alleged Pradeep Tamta.

The Congress candidate said that the projects of rail link to Karnaprayag from Rishikesh and Tanakpur to Bageshwar were approved by previous Congress governments before 2014

He promised that if Congress comes to power, the road to Lipulekh would be made into a highway.” While China has laid rail link up to Lipulekh from its side, the BJP government could not even make the road to Lipulekh a highway,” he charged .

Pradeep Tamta talked of ‘Panch Nyaya, Pachees guarantee,’ of Congress manifesto and said that on coming to power, the INDIA alliance will fill 30 lakh vacant posts in the country besides giving a sum of Rs 1 lakh per annum in the account of every woman and will give them equal share in government jobs.”We will cancel the ‘Agnipath’ scheme with immediate scheme as it weakens not only future economy of country but also defence of the country,” said Tamta.
