Pithoragarh district has been selected as a model district to implement Artificial Intelligence driven techniques to keep away wild animals from human habitations. In order to give relief to people from increasing wild life attacks, forest department in Pithoragarh will use AI technique to ward off wild animals from human settlements by installing AI technique fitted trap cameras at sensitive places, said Ashutosh Singh, Divisional Forest Officer of Pithoragarh division.
“As the Pithoragarh district has been selected as a model district for this scheme, we will soon install five such cameras in Dharchula region where more bear attacks have been reported,”said the DFO.
“The AI powered trap cameras, that have been specially featured to identify bear and leopard and will be able to act within 150 meters radius of its installation as soon as any wild animal reach near the cameras. The device will make loud sounds of such animals with whose voices that these animals keep away. The device will immediately start spreading such chemical sprays that is disliked by these wild animals,” claimed the DFO.
“This is first such experiment to ward off wild animals from human settlements or to protect people from wildlife attack. If the experiments in Pithoragarh gets good results, the scheme will be implemented in other wildlife sensitive areas,” said the DFO.
