Tourists return disappointed from Munsiyari in the absence of snow

Tourists, who reached Munsiyari to watch snowfall like previous have returned disappointed as no snowfall has occured till date in the Himalayan town also known as ‘Himnagari’.

“I have reached here with my family from New Delhi to watch snowfall as some of my friends have suggested Munsiyari as the best place to watch snowfall, but due to no snowfall till date after new year eve,  we are returning back disappointed,” said Puja, a tourist from New Delhi.

According to local tourists facility owners, though high peaks of Panchachuli, Rajranbha and Handling have witnessed snowfall for the second time in last 6 days, but the town of Munsiyari did not witness snowfall till date this year. “Generally, it used to snow gew times between December and January, till last year. But no snowfall has occured in Munsiyari market, where the tourists are waiting it, this year till date,” said Puran Pandey, a tourist facility owner in Munsiyari.

Saddam, a tourist from Sitapur, UP, has said that he reached Munsiyari in the hope of watching snowfall at New year eve but his group returning without witnessing the any snowfall. ” We will try to visit another hill station to watch snowfall this year whenever it happens,” said Saddam.

Meanwhile, tourist department has informed that over 6000 tourists reached Munsiyari in December last year to witness snowfall in the town.”The figure was at 1589 in the month of October and  2063 in the month of November,” said Bhupendra Singh Koranga, a tourist department employee at the entry point of Khalia top, the most visited tourist spot in Munsiyari. The weather department has predicted dry weather in the state for the next week.
