Indo-Nepal border to be closed from March 2 till March 5 due to parliamentary polls in Nepal

Pithoragarh, March 1

The Indo-Nepal border in Uttarakhand state will remain closed for all kinds of traffic from March 2 till March 5, 2026 in view of the conduct of elections of ‘Pratinidhi Sabha’ or parliament of Nepal on  March 5. The border crossing at Pithoragarh and Champawat districts will remain close, according to  Indian officials.

“The security forces like Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB),manning the border and state police besides intelligence agencies will remain on high alert to avoid entry of disrupting elements from across Indian territory, till the elections in Nepal conclude,” said Ashish Bhatgai, Pithoragarh District Magistrate.

He has instructed SDM’s of Dharchula, Didihat and Pithoragarh to take action in tightening security at border after Chief District Officer of neighbouring districts of Dharchula and Baitari, (equivalent to DM in Indian administrative set up) of Nepal requested him to do so.

Not only all 7 border bridges connecting Nepal will be closed till the date but also the security forces will be keeping high alert to prevent entry of disturbing elements from illegal routes particularly river kali which forms the border between two countries in Pithoragarh.

Champawat District Magistrate  Manish Kumar, has instructed SDM”s to be vigilant to prevent anti-social and disturbing elements from Indian border to enter into Nepal with intention of  disturbing peaceful elections. “We have taken action on the request of Chief District Officer Dadeldhura, of Nepal that has expected cooperation from our side in the process to held peaceful and independent elections of ‘Pratinidhi Sabha’ of neighbouring country,” said Manish Kumar.
