Number of pilgrims to ‘Adi Kailash’ and ‘Om Parvat’ swell after Modi visit

Since the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ‘Adi Kailash’ on October 12, 2023, the number of pilgrims and tourists visiting Pithoragarh district has 10 times, according to district tourist officials.

” While the number of tourists visiting the district in the month of May were mere 11168 in 2023, it rose to 95792 in 2025 and 111104 in same month in 2026,” said Kirti Chandra Arya, District Tourist Officer, Pithoragarh.

“It was due to publicity generated by Modi’s visit to ‘Adi Kailash’ in 2023, that the number of pilgrims swelled. Earlier, merely two thousand pilgrims used to visit ‘Adi Kailash’,” said the tourist officer, adding that the opening of motor road to be order region of Vyans valley in 2020 also helped the flow of pilgrims to ‘Adi Kailash’ and other Himalayan view points of the district.

The tourist flow to the district was maximum from various parts of the country as the number of foreign tourists remained low at 78 in 2024,136 in 2025 and 82 in same month in 2026.

The maximum tourist flow was to ‘Adi Kailash’ and ‘Om Parwat’ region of Dharchula sub-division where a total of  38728 tourists or pilgrims reached in the month of May. It was followed by Munsiyari region where a total of 24526 tourists reached to view magnificent view of Himalayan peaks from Khali top.” These top tourists destinations of district were followed by Mahakali temple of Gangolihat, Patal Bhuvaneshwar cave in Berinag and London fort( Sorgarh) in Pithoragarh district headquarter where a total of  8400, 16120 and 12597 tourists respectively visited in said month, said the tourist officer.

“The flow of tourists and pilgrims is bound to increase more in coming months as barring monsoon months, the Adi Kailash yatra will continue till November or the time snowfall occurs in high Himalayan region this year.”said the DTO.
