Alert sounded along river kali in Pithoragarh

The Pithoragarh district administration has sounded an alert in villages and areas along the Kali river in the Jhulaghat region, advising residents to remain vigilant and avoid going near the river following reports of a large water accumulation in Nepal’s Chameliya river.
The Chameliya river, which joins the Kali river at Gethigara village on the Indian side, has reportedly developed a large water deposit after a major landslide blocked its course in Nepal, Pithoragarh District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Bhupendra Singh Mahar said.
According to the DDMO, the Pithoragarh administration received the information from the Chief District Officers of Baitadi and Darchula districts in Nepal.
“Though the Kali river is presently flowing normally downstream of the point where the Chameliya joins it, we have sounded an alert in villages along the river on the Indian side and advised people not to go near the river. The SSB and ITBP have also been asked to remain alert so that they can assist in case the swelling of the Kali causes any crisis in Indian villages,” Mahar said.
