B.D.Kasniyal

Pithoragarh, Nov 9

the dharna started by Pithoragarh Congress MLA Mayukh Mahar in support of the demands of the local people will be discontinued for next 6 days due to Diwali festival and would be resumed on November 15 if the demands are not be met by then.

“After receiving overwhelming support from Congress workers and other social organisations in past ten days, we are discontinuing the dharna for next six days, due to Diwali festival as well as giving time to state government to fulfil the demands during the period. If the demands are not be fulfilled,  we will resume it on November 15 for an indefinite period  till the date are accepted,” said Mayukh Mahar.

Mahar said that if state government accepts his demands and gives it in writing, he will publish posters thanking the government.

The dharna by the Congress MLA was started from October 30, this year demanding resuming of air services from Pithoragarh and filling all posts of medical staff in newly constructed Base Hospital of Pithoragarh.

State Congress chief Karan Mahra today reached the dharna spot to extend his support.”Entire Congress party is standing behind the protestors and the  state government  has turned totally anti- people and wants to stop people from taking  benefits of the facilities sanctioned by Congress party during its regime,” said Karan Mahra.

The dharna is continuously getting support from Congress leaders and social organisations as Congress MLAs Harish Dhami (Dharchula) , Khushal Singh Adhikari (Lohaghat), Manoj Tiwari (Almora) besides former Champawat MLA  Himesh Kharkwal, besides scores of Congress officials reached the spot to give support to the protestors.

“Some BJP leaders  have tried to create confusion by naming Congress legislators  Harish Dhami and Khushal singh Adhikari for supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi but both the MLAs have expressed their overwhelming support to the dharna and Congress party,” claimed Mahendra Lunthi, a senior Congress leader.

Meanwhile, workers of Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), youth wing of ruling BJP today burnt an effigy of Mayukh Mahar alleging that he is uttering humiliating words for state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.”The Dharna is nothing but an attempt to take credit of developmental works being done by Dhami government in the state,” said Harish Rawat, district president of BJYM.
