CEC back to New Delhi after spending night in an abandoned home

Pithoragarh, Oct 17

Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar, who was stranded at Ralam village of Malla Johar following emergency landing of his helicopter due to inclement weather while going towards Milam glacier yesterday, today left for New Delhi via Dehradun at 10.25 am.

The CEC and his team had returned Munsiyari from Ralam early at 6 am and took  rest at ITBP guest house in Munsiyari. The CEC had to spend his night at an abandoned house of Ralam village after landing in fields of the village on October 16.

According to District administration sources, the CEC and his 4 members team had emergency landing at 1.30 pm in the fields of Ralam village.” We had to wait till 5 pm till we came in contact with two tourists from Bengaluru, who provided us noodles to eat and managed breaking open the lock of an abandoned house to rest,” an ITBP officer said quoting the CEC.

Iswar Singh, a villager from nearby Pato village, who reached to facilitate the CEC  and his team from his village at 8 pm said that on hearing about the landing of  CEC’s team at Ralam, he had reached there with dry food items for the team and made the team to rest for next 3 hours. The ITBP team that had been moved from their camp also reached Ralam at 5 am, this morning.

“The Chief Election Commissioner praised the attention paid by locals towards his emergency and said that being in “Devbhoomi” he felt that the nature of local people was helping and humane,” said Iswar Singh. Later the team flew back to Munsiyari and then to Dehradun on way to New Delhi.
