Graphic Era Hospital successfully treated cancer with a small incision

Dehradun, Dec 5
Specialists have successfully treated esophageal cancer with a small incision at Graphic Era Hospital. In a case, a 50-year-old patient was struggling with advanced thoracic esophageal cancer. The hospital’s team of specialists successfully treated the patient using minimally Invasive Thoracoscopic Esophagectomy. This team of experts included Gastrointestinal Oncologist Dr. Sachin Arora, Bariatric Surgeon Dr. Dayashankar Rajgopalan, Dr. Narendra Nagra, Dr. Imliwati Iyer and several other doctors.

The specialists said that five months ago the patient had complained of difficulty in swallowing solid food. Despite undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy with no significant improvement, the patient was brought to Graphic Era Hospital. During the procedure, the team overcame several challenges, including reduced lung capacity due to smoking and dense adhesions between the esophagus, inferior pulmonary vein, and aorta and successfully achieved complete resection.

Compared to open-heart surgery, minimally invasive surgery causes less discomfort to patients, involves a smaller incision, reduced blood loss during surgery and lowers the risk of infection. After this procedure, the patient’s lung condition is showing continuous improvement.
