Pithoragarh, June 26
Pithoragarh police has arrested a driver for raping a five year’s old girl on 23 June in Pithoragarh town. “The culprit Hoshiyar Singh (35), resident of the town, has been arrested under sections, 65(2),115(2),137(2), 351(3),BNS and 5/6 POCSO Act, “said Akshaya Prahlad Kondey, SP, Pithoragarh at a press conference held today.
The culprit was arrested within 8 hours of lodging of FIR with police by relatives by one of the police teams, out of 4 teams that were formed to nab the culprit.
“The culprit, a driver by profession and a criminal who had already been jailed for 7 years in another POCSO crime, committed by him in 2024, had been identified immediately after police started investigation following the FIR lodged by girl’s relatives, “said the SP.
” The minor, who was admitted to district female hospital for treatment, after she was recovered in a state of shock near roadways station at mid night on 24th June, by police, and being taken care of by District child welfare committee, “said Laxman Singh Khati, chairperson of the committee
According to the police, a case under section 72 of BNS and section 23(4) POCSO act has also been lodged against a you- tuber for revealing the identity of the victim.
