Deaf and Dumb minor raped, suspect yet to be arrested

The Dharchula police is investigating about the rape of a deaf and dumb student of 11th class studying in a local school after she delivered a baby in Pithoragarh female hospital.
“After the victim said that she was raped by a youth from same village after luring her to his home on the pretext of viewing a film some 7 months ago, police has registered a case under section 115 (2) , 65 ( 1 ) POCSO, 5 , 6 sections of BNS,” said AK Singh, Thana incharge of Dharchula police thana.
“The culprit has also threatened the victim to kill her if she revealed the matter with anyone,” said the police officer
According to Laxman Singh Khati chairperson of Child Welfare Committee in Pithoragarh, the victim and her child are In female hispital and woukd be sent to special adoption agency run by their organisation after her recovery.
“The minor girl delivered baby on 4th July 2026, but the suspect could not be arrested yet as police is arranging a specialist to record her statement before court as she is deaf and dumb,” said Laxman Singh Khati chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, at district level. “The police has identified the suspect on basis of victims initial disclosure but has not arrested yet. The victim would be sent to adoption agency after she recovers and gives her statement in the court,” said Khati.
