Dehradun, August 15: The Independence Day celebrations at Graphic Era Deemed University began with the martyr’s father hoisting the Tricolour. Breaking away from the university’s long-standing tradition, Chairman of Graphic Era Group of Institutions, Dr. Kamal Ghanshala, gave the honour of hoisting the national flag to the father of the martyr.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ghanshala said that making farmers prosperous is essential for the country’s growth. He said agriculture needs to be connected with research, and students of science and management must come forward to help farmers increase productivity and connect their produce with the right markets and prices.
Dr. Ghanshala also paid tribute to the courage and supreme sacrifice of Graphic Era Deemed University alumnus, martyr Lt. Beereshwar Goswami, who had pursued BA English (Honours) at the university. He said that the nation remains indebted to its martyrs and freedom fighters.
Lt. Beereshwar’s father, Shri Pramod Nath Goswami, paid tribute to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and said that the freedom India enjoys today is its greatest legacy, built on the sacrifices of countless heroes. He urged students not to consider any work big or small and said that performing every responsibility with dedication, honesty and sincerity is true service to the nation.
On the occasion, Chairman Dr. Kamal Ghanshala and Vice Chairperson Dr. Rakhi Ghanshala honoured Lt. Beereshwar’s father, Shri Pramod Nath Goswami, and mother, Smt. Saraswati Goswami, and presented them with 15 lakh rupees as a mark of honour.
Giving a new direction to the legacy of Lt. Beereshwar’s sacrifice, his father said that the amount would be used to support the education of economically weaker and needy children. Dr. Ghanshala also announced the launch of a scholarship in the name of martyr Lt. Beereshwar Goswami. Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, other university officials, faculty members and students attended the ceremony.
