Preserving Heritage Alongside Modernity is Essential

AIIMS Guwahati Chairman and Padma Shri Prof. B.K.S. Sanjay said that modernity does not mean forgetting one’s traditions. Today, as technology and the digital world are rapidly becoming a part of our lives, preserving our cultural roots and heritage has become more important than ever.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the folk and tribal art exhibition based on 150 years of Vande Mataram at Graphic Era Hill University today as the chief guest. He said that art is not limited to paintings and artworks, but is also a means of connecting with our roots, traditions, culture and national identity.
Principal of Chamanlal Mahavidyalaya, Dr. Sushil Kumar Upadhyay, said that art is a powerful medium for expressing the inner conflicts, stress and emotions experienced by human beings. Art and literature make people more sensitive and help create a sense of balance within them.
During this four-day folk and tribal art exhibition, an art workshop, art exhibition and painting competition will be organized to help participants understand various dimensions of art and traditional art forms.
The programme was jointly organized by the Department of Visual Arts, Graphic Era Hill University, and the North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Prayagraj. Dean of Academics Dr. Pramod Nair, Head of the Department of Visual Arts Dr. Anand Karmakar, heads of various departments, faculty members and students were present at the programme.
