The ‘Adi Kailash Parikrama Run’, a high-altitude marathon aimed at promoting tourism in the Adi Kailash region, will be organised in the Gunji area of Pithoragarh district from October 24 to 26 this year, Uttarakhand Additional Director of Tourism Atul Bhandari said here today.
The event, being held at an altitude of 10,000 to 12,000 feet, is aimed at showcasing the natural, cultural and adventure tourism potential of the Adi Kailash region and boosting tourism activities in villages along the international border. The Tourism Department expects more than 1,000 participants from across the country to take part in the event, Bhandari said.
According to Bhandari, Gunji will serve as the base for the 70-km ultra run to be held on October 24. The run will cover the high-altitude route from Jolingkong to Chiyalekh, passing through Kuti, Nabi and Gunji, before concluding at Gunji on the return leg.
A full marathon, half marathon and shorter runs of 10 km and 5 km will be organised on October 25. A mountain-terrain biking event will also be held on October 26, Bhandari said.
The event is expected to give a further boost to adventure and border tourism in the strategically important Adi Kailash region.
