Residents of several remote villages in Munsiyari subdivision of Pithoragarh district visited the district headquarters on Thursday to demand basic amenities in their villages, threatening to boycott next year’s Assembly elections if their demands were not met.
“We are residents of Josha, Dhapa, Malupati, Bona and Golpha villages in Munsiyari subdivision. We have come here to demand the reconstruction of damaged bridges, road connectivity and communication facilities for our villages, besides the rehabilitation of disaster-affected villages, including Josha, Dhapa and Malupati,” said Vikram Singh Danu, district president of the Youth Congress and a local resident.
Highlighting the difficulties faced by residents in accessing healthcare, Danu said people were also struggling due to the absence of specialists in women’s and children’s healthcare at the Community Health Centre in Munsiyari.
The villagers submitted a memorandum to Pithoragarh District Magistrate Ashish Bhatgai, urging the administration to address their long-pending demands.
“If our demands are not met soon, we will boycott the forthcoming Assembly elections. We have been facing all-round difficulties for decades, but no one has come forward to address our problems,” said Bhawna Danu, a panchayat member who was part of the delegation that met the district magistrate on Thursday.
