UPCL refute allegations of power theft in industries in Kashipur, Roorkee areas

Uttarakhand Power corporation limited (UPCL) has clarified that some people are making baseless and misleading allegations regarding electricity theft in industries under Kashipur and Roorkee areas in order to defame Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited, which are completely false.
The UPCL in a press release said that for the past many years, the connections of industries are billed as per Key Consumer Cell (KCC) and the data of billing of each industry is analyzed every month at the level of the concerned Executive Engineer.
In the past few years, UPCL has reduced the T&D and ACC losses and various surveys conducted and released by the Government of India, UPCL has been ranked among the top three to four best states in the country. All this has been possible because the efficiency of UPCL is improving its’ day by day productivity and reducing losses.
Various schemes of the Government of India such as RDSS Scheme for AMISP & Loss Reduction are currently operational and the main objective of these schemes is to reduce the T&D & AT&C losses as per the standards set by the Government of India.
The details of T&D and AT&C Losses for the last 3 years are as follows:- In 2021-22, the T&D losses were 14.15per cent while AT&C Losses were 15.75 per cent. In the year 2022-23, the T&D losses were 14.08 per cent while the AT&C Losses were 15.25 per cent. In the year 2023-24, the the T&D losses were 13.89 per cent while the AT&C Losses were 14.64 per cent.
Similarly, there has been a decrease in T&D and AT&C Losses in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts also. It is evident from the above figures that the allegations levelled by various persons are not true. Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts are sensitive from the point of view of law and order due to which cases of people abusing and assaulting people on action taken to stop electricity theft have come to light in the past years. The details of action taken by Vigilance at the subdivision level to stop electricity theft in the last 5 years are as follows.
In the year 2019-20, a total of 4539 cases of vigilance checking and FIR’s were lodged by the UPCL in the state. In the year 2020-21, a total of 3309 cases of vigilance checking and FIR’s were lodged. In the year 2021-22, a total of 3266 cases of vigilance checking and FIR’s were lodged. In the year 2022-23, a total of 4143 cases of vigilance checking and FIR’s were lodged. In the year 2023-24, a total of 4031 cases of vigilance checking and FIR’s were lodged. In the year 2024-25 till September 2024, a total of 2517 cases of vigilance checking and FIR’s have lodged by UPCL authorities against defaulters.
Apart from this, on receiving information from time to time by various divisions of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd., action is taken by the concerned divisions while checking electricity theft.
