After Lipulekh in the Vyas Valley and Milam in the Johar Valley, Sipu, the last village in the Darma Valley, has been connected by a motor road under the Vibrant Villages Programme. The road has been constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), official sources said.
“The road has been connected to Sipu from Dhakar village, located 10 km away, under a project to provide road connectivity to the vibrant border villages of the Darma Valley. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs 24 crore,” said Kishan Singh Airi, an engineer associated with the project.
Sipu village is located about 70 km from Dharchula, the subdivision headquarters.
“Until now, villagers had to walk more than 10 km to reach the nearest motor road while migrating from the village. They had to cover the same distance on foot while returning from the lower valleys. Today, our 10 families celebrated the historic occasion by travelling to Dharchula by vehicle for the first time,” said Sarojini Seepal, Gram Pradhan of Sipu village.
