From the Pen of Surgeons: a book beyond mere surgeries
Dehradun, Feb 18 Sanjay Orthopaedic, Spine and Maternity Centre, Dehradun organised a book panel discussion of the book ‘From the Pen of Surgeons’ at Doon Library and Research Centre, Dehradun. Chief guest Anil Raturi , Retd. IPS, Chairperson Dr Sanjeev Chopra, founder of Valley of Words (VoW), Guest of honour Lt. Gen. J. S. Negi, Retd General Officer, IMA, Prof. Onkar Singh, VC Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University, Justice Rajesh Tandon, Retd. Judge, High Court, author Orthopedic Surgeon, Padma Shri, Dr B. K. S. Sanjay and co-author Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Gaurav Sanjay inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. Retired IAS N. Ravishankar, director, Doon library and research centre welcomed all the guests and congratutaled the authors for writing an extraordinary book on medical and non medical issues. He appealed to the guests to utilise more the Doon library premises for such activities.
Author and Co-author welcomed the guests with the shawl, memento and a plant.
Author, Padma Shri Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay Said that health, education and nutrition are the fundamental needs of every individual. There is an increased need of awareness of the importance of health, education and nutrition in our lives. This book captures the enormous knowledge and depth of understanding of the authors in their professional field besides their abilities as public health practitioners and communicators to create the right public health awareness in the country.
Co-author, Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Gaurav Sanjay said that the goals and the basis of writing and compiling all these columns in the form of a book titled ‘From the Pen of Surgeons” is to further spread this awareness and reference towards public health and social issues to the concerned citizens and professionals in the medical health sectors and in other fields with a hope, that people will learn and share this experience which are depicted in these columns.
Chief Guest, Anil Kumar Raturi, said that since God could not be everywhere, He created mothers and doctors, who have the power to save lives. He emphasized that this book highlights the importance of education in the development of society and the nation. He also stated that the power of words is immortal and extends beyond the boundaries of any profession.
Guest of Honour, Justice Rajesh Tandan, (retd) stated that both the author and co-author play a crucial role in raising awareness among the general public. He emphasized that everyone should fulfill their responsibilities to enhance health and wellness. He also highlighted that environmental issues are a major concern in the state of Uttarakhand.
Another Guest of Honour, Prof. Onkar Singh, stated that artificial intelligence is influencing our entire ecosystem. He emphasized that parents should pass on their knowledge to their children and teach them to be mindful of artificially created tools. Instead of relying on them blindly, they should use technology as an enabler.
Guest of Honour, Lt. Gen. J. S. Negi(retd), stated that this book covers many important issues, including health, education, nutrition, various health issues, overpopulation, and road safety. He emphasized that longevity and good health are crucial. He also highlighted that youth are the future’s greatest asset and must be guided in the right direction. Overpopulation and illiteracy remain major concerns. He stressed that everyone should follow traffic rules, and if they do not, policymakers must enforce compliance.
Chairperson, Dr. Sanjiv Chopra, said that this book covers a wide range of topics. He emphasized that the more languages we know, the better we understand the world. He described this book as a true contribution to society.
Dr. Tarun Kumar Mandal ,a former Lok Sabha MP from West Bengal said that both the author and co-author, despite their busy schedules as doctors, have taken the time to write a book addressing numerous important issues, which is truly commendable. He highlighted that India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world and praised the authors for their dedicated efforts in serving the nation. Dr Gaurav Sanjay expresses his gratitude to all the guests and audience present in the program. Program was conducted by Simran Suri.
