Youth from Indo-China border region to undertake trek leadership course

In order to build skilled human resources in the field of adventure tourism and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for local youths of border region at Indo-China border, a 20 members youth team was flagged off today from Dharchula for HANIFL center at Mussoorie, to take up 16 days Trek leadership course, according to Yogesh Garbiyal, an ace mountaineer and organiser of the course. The team was flagged off by Ashok,Nabiyal, vice chairman of Uttarakhand tourism advisory board.
“The course aimed at promoting reverse migration to border regions by equipping the local youths in professional adventure skills, so they could generate local employment opportunities in this border region. The programme is being sponsored by tourism department of Uttarakhand government,” said Yogesh Garbiyal.
Speaking on the occasion, Uttarakhand Tourism Secretary Dheeraj Garbiyal said that such trainings to local youths would not only help them to get employment but also in conservation of local culture, protecting fragile Himalayan environment, and in boosting tourism based economy by initiating a new employment avenue in the border region.
“The government of Uttarakhand is actively working in promoting adventure and winter tourism in border areas with an intention to provide livelihood to local youths at their door steps,” said Dheeraj Singh Garbiyal, Tourism Secretary of Uttarakhand state.
According the training organiser, Yogesh Garbiyal, the youths, including 8 women, will receive comprehensive training in Trek leadership, group management, Map reading, compass and navigation techniques, basic technical skills, first aid and rescue, awareness and management of high altitude illness, weather assessment and safety measures, rope and knot techniques, camp management and environmental conservation.
” The trained youths in adventure tourism activities on the Himalayan region would be of use to those trekkers who need skilled and expert help during their campaigns of trekking in high Himalayan region at Indo-China border,” said Yogesh Garbiyal.
