Uttarakhand Foundation North America to strengthen ties with mother state
Dehradun, April 29
Uttarakhand Foundation of North America Chairperson Runjhun Saklani who met the Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, called for strengthening collaboration between the state and its global diaspora.
During the meaningful interaction, the Chief Secretary appreciated the proactive efforts of the Pravasi Cell Uttarakhand in engaging Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and encouraging them to contribute to the development of their home state. The discussion highlighted a growing trend of reverse migration, where members of the diaspora are returning to Uttarakhand to invest, serve, and reconnect with their roots.
Runjhun Saklani elaborated on the foundation’s impactful grassroots initiatives, in education, healthcare, and agriculture, highlighting the highly regarded summer educational programs in partnership with ‘Kitaab Club’ designed to cultivate young intellects and promote cultural and educational development. She provided insights on different collaborative initiatives that align with government efforts to empower local communities. She also recognized that Sudhir Nautiyal has played a key role in linking NRIs and supporting these significant initiatives via the Pravasi Cell.
As a gesture of cultural pride and connection, she presented the annual magazine ‘Patrika Kauthigh’ to the Chief Secretary. The publication reflects how Uttarakhand’s global community continues to uphold and celebrate its rich cultural heritage despite living abroad.
Accompanying her was Anita Thapliyal Sharma, a distinguished autism advocate and a strong proponent of reverse migration. Inspired by the initiatives of the Pravasi Cell, she has established a pioneering, holistic autism center in Dehradun—one of its kind in the region—dedicated to supporting children on the autism spectrum through comprehensive and inclusive programs.
The meeting underscored the powerful role of the diaspora in shaping Uttarakhand’s future and reaffirmed a shared commitment to community development, cultural preservation, and inclusive growth.
