Out of the Box Thinking is the Foundation of New Space Flights: Dr. Sudhir Kumar Mishra

Former CEO and MD of BrahMos and senior scientist Dr. Sudhir Kumar Mishra said that realizing the limitless possibilities of space requires moving beyond conventional thinking and connecting imagination with innovation. He said that out of the box thinking forms the foundation for new flights that can take humanity to the next frontier of space.

He was addressing a special session organized at Graphic Era Deemed University on the occasion of National Space Day. During the session, Dr. Sudhir Kumar Mishra spoke about the changing dimensions of defence technology and national security. He traced the journey from the history of rocket technology to the development of indigenous rocket technology in India, highlighting how scientific thinking, research and technological self-reliance have strengthened the country’s defence capabilities. He said that today, advanced defence technology is not merely a means of ensuring security but also a symbol of India’s technological strength and its journey towards self-reliance.

Professor at IIT kanpur, Dr. Sanjay Mittal introduced the students to the scientific principles behind the world of aircraft. Beginning with the evolution of aircraft and the history of flight, he discussed different types of aircraft and the key features of their designs. He explained the structure of an aircraft and the role of its various components, along with the fundamental principles of flight dynamics. Through examples of streamlined bodies and bluff bodies, Dr. Mittal explained how structures designed to control airflow influence the speed, stability and efficiency of an aircraft.

The session was jointly organized by the Department of Aerospace Engineering, of Graphic Era Deemed University, NEP Saarthi, Technology Business Incubator at Graphic Era Deemed University, BIS, Institutional Innovation Council and Orbit Quest Club. Vice Chancellor Dr. Narpinder Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Santosh S. Sarraf, Department Head Dr. Sudhir Joshi, TBI CEO Sarishma Dangi, along with other faculty members and students, were present at the session.
