‘Adi Kailash Parikarma Run’ Marathon to be held on Nov 2

‘Adi Kailash Parikrama Run’, an Ultra Marathon race, in five categories from 5 km to 60 kilometers around the ‘Adi Kailash’ surrounding places in Dharchula sub- division of Pithoragarh district, will be organised on November 2.

The marathon, being organised by Uttarakhand tourism department, for the first time in the state, aimed at boosting ‘Adi Kailash’ pilgrimage.

The marathon race will be organised at an elevation of 10500 to 14500 feet high of Himalayan region of Jolingkong (14500 feet, Gunji(10500 and Kalapani (11500) feet above sea level.

“The marathon race will be organised in five categories of distances including 60 km long race from Jolingkong to Gunji via Kuti, Kalapani and back to Gunji (open for all). Other categories of 42, 21, 10 and 5 kms respectively long-distance high-altitude marathon races will also be held,” said Kirti Chand Arya, District Tourist Officer, Pithoragarh who returned from Gunji after taking initial view of facilities for the proposed event.

The winners of the marathon races in different categories will be given cash prizes. The winners of 60 km long marathon will get Rs. Two lakhs each in male and female category. Others up to first ten in the race will also get Rs.20,000 each.

” The 42 km run will attract Rs 1.25 lakh to first ranker, 21 km run will have Rs 75000 to the winner followed by Rs 50000 and Rs. 20000 in 10 km and 5 km races,” said the tourist officer.

“We are expecting more than 350 athletes from across the nation including those who have experience of high altitude marathon races in Ladhakh region, he added.
