Roads on Indo-China border closed due to heavy snowfall

Border roads at Indo-China border situated in Darma and Vyans valleys of Pithoragarh district remained closed due to heavy snowfall deposits and laandslides at several places. The roads are likely to clear by March 4, if fresh snowfall does not occurs in these valleys, according to offficials.

“The border roads to last security posts of Indo-China border, including Tawaghat -Sobla road, Sobla Dar Angling Duktu Dhakar road, Tawaghat to Pangla to Chiyalekh road, Gunji Kalapani to Nabhidhang road and Gunji to Jolingkong road or Adi Kailash roads were closed due to snowfall or deposits of heavy boulders on roads at several places, ” said Santosh Chand, District Information Officer quoting Border Roads Organisation (BRO) sources in Dharchula.

The villagers of both the valleys as well as security personnel deputed at border are stranded at lower locations due to this closure.

“We are trying to open Tawaghat- Sobla, and Sobla to Dhakar road by March 2, as the road to Darma valley villages and security posts situated in the valley, is closed due to heavy snowfall deposits from some 10 km to 46 km  distance from Tawaghat,” said Santosh Chand quoting BRO officer from 65 Road Construction Company (RCC) of the Organisation.

“The road to Vyans valley, or Tawaghat to Gunji road is closed from 4 km distance from Tawaghat, while Gunji to Nabhidhang road is open,” said the officer

The district information officer said that Adi Kailash road, from Gunji to Jolingkong is closed due to heavy snowfall deposits  and could be opened by March 4, on the condition that there is no fresh snowfall.
