In view of rainy monsoon months which are synonymous with landslides and other kind of disasters in the hills, Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), the nodal agency for ‘Adi Kailash’ and ‘OM Parvat’ pilgrimage, suspended it’s yatra operation from June 25, this year .
According to Nigam officials, the last and 15th batch of ‘Adi Kailash Yatra’, consisting 39 pilgrims, will reach Dharchula base on June 25.” The seven day yatra begins from Kathgodam and returns from Kathgodam after completion on seventh day,” said Dhan Singh, incharge of base camp of yatra at Dharchula.
“Keeping monsoon rains in mind, the Nigam has suspended booking for yatra from June 25, this year. The booking for the yatra will be resumed from September first week, after the rains,” said L.M.Tiwari, manager of “Adi Kailash Yatra’ with Nigam based at Nainital.
The KMVN started hosting the yatra from May 13, this year and till date a total of 595 ‘Adi Kailash’ pilgrims from all over the country have completed the yatra this year. The ‘Adi Kailash’ and ‘OM Parvat Yatra’ got a boost last year when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the ‘Adi Kailash’ on October 12, last year.
